It was one of those nights… as the numbers on the clock slowly ticked the night away, I was still awake. I was tired and needed to sleep but I found myself lying in bed, stressed out and still not sleeping. It seemed the more I wanted and tried to sleep the worse I felt. As the morning slowly approached, I was aware that I had a hard day ahead of me, I need my sleep – at least 6 hours. I have Fibromyalgia and that causes me to have unrested sleep and insomnia. If I do not sleep, I really have problems that can be long lasting. I finally got out of bed, made myself a relaxing tea and turned on some relaxing music. As I sipped tea and melted into the couch, I let the music work its magic on my mind. Within minutes I found myself falling asleep, teacup still in hand. It still amazes me how quickly music, for this purpose, can put me to sleep.
One of the things I love about music as a sleep aid is that, it is natural and will not have any adverse side effects. As someone with an illness, I can say that I was prescribed pills for sleep, pain, inflammation, muscle relaxing and depression; all of which, I took on a daily basis for six months straight. The problem I had from the medications was that they caused me to get kidney infections. I had never before experienced them and after the third in a row, I began looking for what was causing them. I concluded that it had to be from medication and that is when things turned around for me. I quit taking pills and looked for more natural ways to deal with my illness. Within two weeks, I began to get better and I have never had another kidney infection. That was twenty years ago. I am not saying that everyone should stop taking their meds, as there are many people with serious medical conditions who need medicine. But, if it is a sleep problem you have, why not try something that will help you to get into a nice state of relaxation naturally like our sleep music?
Theta Brainwave Entrainment – Selecting the most effective Music To Sleep
While there are many types of music that help people to fall asleep, I recommend trying out music with Theta waves. I first read about Theta Brainwaves (Theta Brainwave Entrainment) in a few articles last year. What I read was, in short, theta waves are slow relaxed moving waves that are being produced while sleeping, dreaming and resting. Theta brainwaves can be triggered by external sources, while applying a certain range of frequencies (3.5 to 7hz). The benefits of listening to relaxing music incorporating brainwaves are immediately noticeable. The music will be perceived as having more depth and motion which, relaxes and calms the mind when needed.
Along with music as a sleep aid, I would recommend taking a long look at where you are sleeping. Is your mattress comfortable? How about your pillow(s)? For me to be able to get good sleep, I need a good mattress, a certain kind of pillow (when I travel I take my own), soft sheets and a warm blanket that is not too heavy. Along with a pillow for my head, I need a hard, fat pillow to put my arm around and a flat one that rests between my lower legs. Also, both my husband and I need a certain amount of space in the bed and as such, we wound up buying a king sized bed. I know it sounds like a bit much but, it is all true.
Out of all the rooms in the house, I like my bedroom the most. The last time we moved a long distance, we decided to start over with all new furnishings. Our bed had to be ordered online and due to a company error, we wound up waiting an entire month for it to get here. That was one long, miserable month. The rest of our furnishings were delivered within two weeks but my bedroom, was a disaster. For me, it is where I spend the most time and therefore, it is comfortable and clean. When I walk into my bedroom, I like to have the feeling that I get when I visit a nice spa. I suggest keeping stress making objects out of the bedroom and investing in a few things to make your bedroom as comfortable and relaxing as possible. With that in mind, I have included some links for items to make your bedroom a place to relax and to increase dreams and healing.
